Red, White & BBQ Burger

Ingredients

For the Burgers

  • 500g minced beef (80/20 fat)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 1 small red onion thinly sliced
  • 4 rashers crispy bacon (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Americal mustard
  • 4 tbsp BBQ sauce (smoky or sweet)
  • Salt & pepper
  • Oil for the grill
  • Pickles
  • Tomato slices

Optional Gamishes

  • Lettuce

Directions

Step 1 of 6
1.
Preheat the Versa-Tile: Set up for medium-high heat. The flat grill surface is perfect for smashing patties evenly and getting those crispy caramelised edges.
2.
Prep the Patties: Divide beef into 4 balls (125g each). Season generously with salt & pepper.
3.
Smash and Sear: Oil the flat grill lightly. Place beef balls on the hot surface and press down with a spatula until ~1cm thick. Cook 2-3 mins, until edges are browned and crispy. Flip, add cheddar slices on top and cook another 1-2 mins to melt.
4.
Prepare the Buns & Toppings: Toast buns lightly on the flat grill. Fry bacon on the grill if using. Caramelise red onions on the grill for extra depth.
5.
Assemble the Burgers: Spread American mustard on the bottom bun. Add smash patty + cheddar, then bacon, caramelised onions, and a drizzle of BBQ sauce. Top with lettuce/pickle if desired, then bun top.
6.
Serve: Serve hot and messy, perfect for sharing at a 4th of July BBQ. Optional: cut in half to show the oozy cheese pull for the perfect social shot.
