Cleaning & Caring for Your Griddle Grill
Cleaning & Caring for Your Griddle Grill
Char-Broil® Griddle Grills are built to provide great cooking results for years – and with minimal cleaning effort. To maintain top performance and prolong your grill’s lifespan, we recommend a regular cleaning routine to prevent buildup on the coated surface. The longer food residue remains, the harder it is to remove.
Cleaning the Griddle Surface
- The griddle features a durable porcelain/ceramic coating that’s even safe for use with metal utensils when handled properly. Avoid harsh scraping or pressure.
- After every use, wipe the surface with a damp cloth or paper towel and water.
- For stuck-on food or grease, use a grill spatula or flat-edged wooden tool. For stubborn residue, pour a little water on the hot surface – the steam will help lift it off.
- If necessary, apply a mixture of baking soda and water and scrub gently with a soft brush.
- After cleaning, apply a thin layer of oil to protect the surface. For more details, see: Get Your Versa-Tile® Griddle Grill Ready: Cleaning and Seasoning.

Cleaning the Exterior
- Check and clean the grease tray regularly. It holds approx. 470 ml (2 cups) of grease and should be emptied after each use. Depending on what you’ve cooked, it may fill quickly. Only empty it once cooled to avoid burns. Clean it with warm soapy water – note: it is not dishwasher safe.
- Use a weather cover to protect your griddle grill from the elements.
- For storage, keep your griddle covered and – if possible – indoors in a cool, dry place like a garage or shed. Always remove the gas bottle and store it outdoors.

Key Points at a Glance
You should pay particular attention to these three points when cleaning:
- Clean the griddle surface and empty the grease tray after every use.
- Avoid harsh chemicals – use water, mild soap, or baking soda if necessary.
- Treat the surface gently, like a cast iron pan or Dutch oven, to prevent scratches.
